Update

So, update on my post before last regarding my insane skin.

I went to the Tiffani Kim Institute last week and saw Kristie who injected a very large needle into the massive thing growing on my chin......as she came at me with that long, scary, looming needle, I clutched G's hand in mine preparing for the worst.

It didn't hurt at all.

This lead me to ask Kristie if this was the same size needle they use for botox.

It is.

hmmmmmm................

I digress.

It is now gone and I am taking a B complex vitamin daily to help out so that it does not return for a one night showing next month. Please cross your fingers. This is not helping my stress levels.

Just Dance....

When we started looking for music for our wedding day, we initially were leaning towards a band. They can run anywhere from $4,000 to $6,000 and up here in Chicago. This was not a high enough priority on my list to warrant that much money.

So the next option was a DJ.

I felt/feel VERY strongly about DJ's. I hate all strobe lights, cheesy introductions, line dancing of any kind, country music, any sort of collective group dancing, etc. I was panicking.

Until I found Toast and Jam.

Toast and Jam is the antidote to the cheesy wedding DJ.
We reject stale line dances, props and other gimmicks in favor of sweet, perfectly planned and well-timed soundtracks that appeal to every partygoer, from elderly grandparents to the most discerning music critic. Toast and Jam believes that a thoughtful mix of pop favorites, hip-hop bootyshakers, Motown classics and timeless standards are a fun and self-respecting alternative to the embarrassing Hokey Pokey and Chicken Dance.

ahhhhhhhhhhh, my kind of DJ. Not only is their outlook on wedding music awesome but the women (and 1 man) who DJ are awesome. I can't wait to have them do our wedding!

Einstein over here..

So, roughly 1 week ago I realized I have an underground pimple on my chin. It ends up growing to the size of a quarter and is painful. (I know, this is fascinating stuff)

I get the bright idea on how to make it better which is to go tanning for $5 Tuesdays. Well, this of course means that the tanning place is filled with orange faced, fake boobed girls and the wait for a normal bed is 20 minutes. Oh hell no. So I let the 16 year old, leather faced, tanning associate convince me to go into a stand up bed. She does not tell me that those bulbs are waaaaaaaaaay stronger then a lay down bed. (I have been sort of semi against tanning beds, I slather my face in sunscreen all summer. I am a total hypocrite.)You know the outcome....

The zit is smaller today but I have added about 5 extra years to my face from the 2nd degree burn I am sporting.

Reason 100,503,678 women do crazy shit when they have a wedding 1 month away.

LOfreakingL

I interrupt this recap of wedding progress to share a hilarious email from one of my best friends who currently works in the fashion industry in NYC. She is very non traditional.....

Awhile back I emailed her regarding my bridal showers, one being in MLPS and another option of a small party in NYC which is where G is from. This is her response.................

Details

I originally got some really cute Capezio ballet slippers to wear under the dress.

G and I are the same height....alright, alright, alright he is about an 1/2 inch shorter, maybe an inch....whose counting?

I digress, back to the shoes.

When my mom was in town for my bridal shower I found these adorable Prada flats and I being the ultimate bargain queen could not justify it.

My MOTHER who practically cuts coupons for a living encouraged me to purchase them! For those of you who know my mom, this constitutes buying them outright from sheer shock alone. So I did. Twist my damn arm. Here they are in all their glory.....

Invites

Invitations were not super high up on my priority list but I knew a few things for certain and one was that I wanted them to be modern looking, two I wanted them to be different and the third was that I am not skilled at any sort of Do-It-Yourself, so someone else needed to do them for me. Being that our colors are chocolate brown and ice blue, I thought it would be cool to have all brown invites with blue writing.
We used Tifany at Gourmet Invitations and she was unsure if there was a printing process that she could use to achieve that. After going back and forth many times she found a way to execute my dream invites!
One of my favorite parts of the invitations were the customized monogram stamps and inner response stamps. This was done using zazzle.com.

The Support System

My Bridal Party.

It is funny because in my time on theknot.com, I read all these horror stories about bridesmaids. How they didn't do enough, how they are meddling too much, all the stress it is causing brides as a result. I have NONE of this. I am so lucky in that regard. My bridesmaids have done nothing but be over the top in their support, excitement, participation, patience and love through this entire process. I don't know if I picked great people or just got really lucky but either way I feel honored. This is for them.

When I was little, I used to believe in the concept of one best friend, and then I started to become a woman.

And then I found out that if you allow your heart to open up, you will find the best in many friends.

One friend is needed when you're going through things with your man.

Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom.
Another will sit beside you in the bleachers as you delight in your children and their activities. Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be.

One friend will say, "Let's cry together,"another, "Let's fight together,"another, "Let's walk away together."

One friend will meet your spiritual need, another your shoe fetish, another your love for movies, another will be with you in your season of confusion, another will be your clarifier, another the wind beneath your wings.

But whatever their assignment in your life, on whatever the occasion, on whatever the day, or wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and hairpulled back, or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself .

Those are your best friends. It may all be wrapped up in one woman, but for many, it's wrapped up in several...one from 7th grade, one from high school, several from the college years,a couple from old jobs, on some days your mother,on some days your neighbor, on others, your sisters, and on some days, your daughters.

The Dress

I felt very strongly that I could find a dress that looked amazing without paying over 2k. I was right. I had my MOH drive me to the burbs to go dress hunting.... although the dress experience was without champagne or sales assistants fawning all over me, I made it through just fine and happily put the cost savings in my pocket, besides I had my MOH for all of those things! I found my dress at Eva's in Orland Park. It is a Val Stefani. Here are pictures from the pick up and first fitting. I will update as we go along.

Take it from the start..

One of the first wedding related decisions that we made was to get married at The James Hotel. The most important thing for us was treating our guests to a great dinning experience. David Burke will be catering the dinner portion of the evening and that happens to be one of our favorite restaurants.

At the tasting we determined that our final menu would include:

First Course:

Lobster Bisque
green apple essence, lobster stick

Second Course:

Organic Mixed
greens, cherry tomatoes, fresh herb

Third Course

Choice of:
Filet Mignon:
Boneless, 12 ounce
Served with basil whipped potato, asparagus

OR

Organic Chicken
Served with corn, mushroom, potato hash, herb jus

Dessert
Wedding Cake and David Burke Cheesecake Lollipops

Late night snack

Mini kobe beef cheeseburgers served with truffle fries

This also includes 6 hour top shelf open bar and champagne toast.

Here we go!

Well this is my first post. After much persistance from my friends to document this crazy journey to wedded bliss, I am doing it! G and I are getting married in just 1 month and I cant believe how fast time is flying by. He is a nice Jewish boy from New York City and I am a small town Lutheran girl from Minnesota trying to blend our lives, traditions, cultures and families together, needless to say it keeps things interesting!
